Il Fior di battaglia di Fiore dei Liberi da Cividale is an Italian language, full color facsimile of a fourteenth-century manuscript in the collection of the J. Paul Getty Museum (Ms. Ludwig XV 13). The earliest Italian instructional manual on battle skills, the Fior di battaglia contains accurate drawings of contemporary armor, weapons and combat techniques.
Massimo Malipiero's critical edition of the manuscript argues that it was written by a weapons expert rather than a master of battle techniques. The author provides a technical analysis of the manuscript's illustrations of combat and a full diplomatic transcription of the text.
