Marquetry

The marquetry composition on the table's sides and top is made of many individual pieces of veneer cut into precise shapes and glued onto the surfaces of the table. Fifteen types of wood make up the marquetry patterns on this table.

Gilt-bronze mounts

The gilt-bronze mounts themselves involved a group of specialists. A sculptor carved the model out of wood, wax, or clay; the founder made a bronze cast from the model; the chaser refined the rough surface of the bronze cast; the gilder applied a thin layer of gold to the cast; and the mounter fit the pieces to the furniture.
