Birkerts, Gunnar (American architect, 1925-2017, born in Latvia)
|
Note: Principal, Gunnar Birkerts & Associates. He emigrated to the United States in 1949 and worked with Eero Saarinen in Birmingham, Michigan, and with Minoru Yamasaki. He started his own firm in 1963 in Birmingham. Many of his buildings are in and around Detroit, but he also designed the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the Latvian National Library in Riga. He taught at the University of Michigan 1959-1990, and authored several books on architecture. |
