Bonfils, Lydie (French photographer, 1837-1918)

Note: Lydie was married to Félix Bonfils who was a bookbinder, then a printer, and finally a photographer trained by Niépce, Félix Bonfils was in Lebanon in 1860 during France’s military expedition, and decided to transfer his business there in 1867, becoming the first French photographer to open a studio in Beirut, Maison Bonfils. Lydie and their son Adrien assisted in the production of portraits and genre scenes as they travelled throughout Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt, Turkey and Greece. |
