Munich Secession (German artists group, Munich, formed 1892)
|
Note: Social and professional artists' association founded in 1892 primarily to mount exhibitions. Unlike the later secessions of Vienna and Berlin, it did not arise in a culturally repressive environment but instead was the result of the economic uncertainty of the artist's profession in the Munich of the late 1880s and early 1890s; leading Secessionists held important positions of power in the Munich art community prior to their breakaway from the establishment. |
