Running, Cyrus Maynard (American painter and woodcutter, 1913-1976)
|
Note: Cyrus Running was born in Veblen, South Dakota, August 2, 1913. His parents had ties to the Troneheim and Nordfjord areas in Norway. He received his BA from St. Olaf College in 1934, majoring in history and biology. He studied at the Yale University School of Fine Arts for two years. He received his MA from the University of Iowa in 1940 where he studied with Grant Wood. He taught high school science and music in rural Wisconsin and art at the University of Omaha before joining the art department faculty at Concordia College in Minnesota in 1940. He remained at Concordia until his retirement in 1974. He died on December 25, 1976. The Cyrus M. Running Gallery at Concordia College was named in his honor. |
