Note: Napoleone was created a cardinal in 1288, he was subsequently Rector of the Duca di Spoleto (1300-1301) and Papal Legate to Central Italy (1306-1308). He and his brother Gian Gaetano are depicted in the chapel of St. Nicolas (ca. 1301) in S. Francesco. Napoleone also had his portrait painted (1342) by Simone Martini (according to Petrarch) and was possibly the patron of Simone's Orsini Polyptych. |
