Record Type: Person
Deodato di Cosma (Italian marble worker, active 1294-1332)

Note: Specialized in altar ciboria, such as that of ca. 1300 in S. Maria in Cosmedin, Rome, and the reliquary ciborium from the Magdalene altar of S. Giovanni in Laterano can be reconstructed from substantial fragments in the cloister. There is evidence of other works by him in S. Maria in Campitelli, Rome, and S. Pietro, Tivoli. His signature, dated 1332, is on the main portal of Teramo Cathedral, Abruzzi, demonstrating how Roman marbleworkers worked outside Rome after the curia moved to Avignon in 1309. Distinguishing features of Deodatus's Roman work include certain ornamental Gothic elements in ciboria.
