Salomon, Charlotte (German painter and printmaker, 1917-1943)
|
Note: Salomon was born in Berlin, the only child of an upper-middle class German Jewish family. She created a massive autobiographical cycle of images painted in gouache called 'Life? or Theatre?' that is considered a forerunner of the graphic novel. It incidentally chronicles the rise of the Nazis in Germany. A painted confession to the murder of her grandfather was revealed in 2011. She was murdered at Auschwitz in 1943. |
