Liébert, Alphonse J. (French photographer and publisher, 1827-1913)

Note: Around 1848, Liébert took up photography in Paris, France. In 1851, Liébert moved to San Francisco, California, where he set up a commercial portrait studio and also published books. In 1863, Liébert returned to Paris, France, to set up a photographic studio. In this year he also patented a solar enlargement technique. In 1871, Liébert photographed the aftermath of the Commune and the Siege of Paris. In 1872, he published these photographs in the book "Les ruines de Paris et ses environs." In 1879, Liébert opened the first photographic studio equipped with electric lighting.
