Le Vau, Louis (French architect, 1612-1670)

Note: Son of Louis Le Vau (d. 1661), architect. Began his career in the 1630s, designing row houses and "hôtels particuliers" on the Ile Saint-Louis, Paris. Le Vau was responsible for the design of the garden elevations of Versailles. Known mainly as a designer of hôtels and châteaux. Held the position of "Conseiller du Roi, intendant ordonnateur général et premier architecte des bâtiments royaux". French architect.
