Colville, Alex (Canadian painter and printmaker, 1920-2013)

Note: Studied at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, receiving a BFA in 1942, after which he entered the Canadian Army. In 1944 he became Official War Artist, serving in England, France, Holland and Germany. He left the military in 1946 and took a teaching post at Mount Allison University, where he stayed until 1963. He rejected landscape trends in Canadian art in favor of figurative work realized either as paintings or screenprints.
