Couvay, Jean (French engraver, 1622-ca. 1680)

Note: Couvay was friends with the the print-publisher François Langlois de Chartres and the painter Claude Vignon. He was mainly a reproductive engraver, and chiefly made prints after French masters such as Vignon, Simon Vouet, and Grégoire Huret. He occasionly reproduced the works of Italian artists. His line engraving show strength and precision. About 150 prints by him are known.
