Procházka, Antonín (Czech painter and illustrator, 1882-1945)

Note: Czech painter and designer studied in Prague at the Academy of Decorative Arts from 1902-1904 and at the Academy of Fine Arts 1904-1906. One of the founders of the Group of Eight in 1907. He took many study trips through Europe with his wife Linka Scheithauerova, and the painter Emile Filla, absorbing contemporary trends. He left the Mánes Association of Plastic Artists to join the Group of Plastic Artists in 1911. His style developed through expressionism and fauvism, and he was one of the first Czech painters to work in the cubist style. In the years 1912-1914 he produced designs for cubist architecture, furniture, lighting, and decoration, though after 1924 he takes an interest in primitivism, folk art and neo-classicism, and begins painting with encaustics.
