Linnell, John (English furniture maker, 1729-1796)

Note: Died 27 April 1796. Son of William Linnell, furniture maker. Student and member of the St. Martin's Lane Academy. John Linnell joined his father's firm in 1749. In 1750, Linnell's firm was transferred to 8 Long Acre, London, and in 1754 it moved again to a larger workshop at 28 Berkeley Square, London. Father and son worked here (28 Berkeley Sq.) for nine years (from 1754 to 1763), building up a clientèle and covering a wide range of activities as carvers, furniture makers and upholsterers. At William's death in 1763 John found himself in sole charge of a firm employing some forty or fifty people. English furniture maker.
