Note: Born 18 September 1923. Smithson studied at the School of Architecture, University of Durham, England, 1939-1942 and 1945-1947; at the Department of Town Planning in 1946-1948; and at the Royal Academy Schools, London, England, in 1948-1949. In 1949 he married the architect Alison Margaret Gill. The Smithsons established their own practice in London in 1950. British architect.
