Note: Valtice is a town in the southern Czech Republic set in the largest artificial landscape in Europe. When the dukes of Liechtenstein were rulers of Bohemia, they created a cultural landscape with English Romantic landscape architecture and Baroque architecture for the towns and large, landmark buildings. Valtice's most notable buildings are the old monastery and alms-house of the monks Hospitallers, and the large Gothic Revival castle, famed for its wine cellars. The town hosts a famous school for vintners, and continues to be the center of an internationally known winemaking district. |
