Note: Jylland is a large peninsula of northern Europe, situated between the Black and the Baltic Seas and forming the continental portion of Denmark. Often, the name is used to refer to the larger area including the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. The Danish portion of Jylland measures some 11,496 square miles in area and is divided into seven county communes. The name Jylland derives from the name of the traditional inhabitants, the Jutes. Historically, it was the seat of a thriving Viking culture. |
