Note: The county commune of Viborg was situated in north-central Jutland, Denmark, measuring some 1592 square miles in area and consisting of the Salling Peninsula, Fur Island, and Mors Island in Lim Fjord, and the Thy Peninsula between Lim Fjord and the Skagerrak. It was created from former counties of Viborg and Thisted. The Thy Peninsula was heavily wooded with limestone and chalk quarries. The rest of the county had rich soil and supports dairying and mixed farming. The county seat was the town of Viborg. Its 2004 estimated population was 234,600. In 2007, all counties in Denmark were eliminated and five large regions created. |
