The Roman province of Aquitaine was divided into three separate provinces in the 4th century CE. Aquitania Tertia was the southernmost portion, adjoining the Pyrennees and covering present-day Bigorre, Cominge, Armagnac, BĂ©arn, the Basque country, Gascony, and other areas.
