Note: One of the provinces of the Roman Empire in Roman Hispania, an area that comprised most of modern Portugal and the Spanish provinces of Salamanca and Cáceres. The area was named for the Lusitani, inhabitants described by the Romans as war-like, and who resisted Roman occupation until 139 BCE, when their leader, Viriatus, died. |
