Note: Kingdom in the lower Himalayas. Emerged in the late 16th century; flourished in the 17th century. Of religious importance, containing numerous ancient temples. Fell to the Nepalese and then the British before becoming part of Uttar Pradesh upon Indian independence in 1947.
