Note: Area encompassing the Bahla Fort and walled oasis settlement. This settlement served as the capital of the Omani region while it was under the control of the Banu Nebhan tribe during the late medieval period. Other notable structures include a Friday mosque and the ruins of a souq. Most of the architecture is composed of mud bricks, but the foundation of the fort is made of stone. The settlement’s defensive architectural plan likely contributed to the power and prosperity of the Banu Nebhan tribe. The Bahla Fort has undergone a series of conservation efforts and is protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
