Note: Severomoravský, known in English as Northern Moravia, is a region in the northeastern Czech Republic, on the border of Poland to the north and Slovakia to the east. It measures some 4273 square miles in area and is largely mountainous, with valleys created by the flows of the Morava, Oder, and Becva Rivers that drain the region. Two-fifths of the land is forested, and most of the valley lowlands are cultivated, producing cattle and hogs and a large variety of crops notably sugar beets, wheat, hops, and fruit. The area contains mineral water spas, and deposits of limestone, gypsum, granite and bituminous coal. Tourism is important, attracting tourists with mountain resorts for hiking and skiing, and to its mineral spas. |
