Note: Antvorskov is a small town located one and one-quarter miles southeast of Slagelse in the county commune of Vestsjælland, Denmark. It was founded in 1170 by King Valdemar the Great It is the site of the ruins of the priory of St. John of Jerusalem, which was once the premier house of this order in Scandinavia. It is known s the site where the 16th-century monk Hans Tausen preached a sermon that marked the start of the Protestant Reformation in Denmark. With the Reformation the Danish king confiscated the monastery and turned it into a royal hunting lodge. The buildings were neglected and abandoned and fell into ruin, and a modern highway now covers much of the former monastery grounds. The town has a Folk High School.
