Note: This is one of the five indigenous Panamanian comarcas. The comarca covers an area of 4,383.5 km² and is stewarded by the Emberá and Wounaan people, whose ancestors came from the Chocó region. Emberá-Wounaan was officially created in 1983 with its own independent administrative and political structure. |
