Note: Tipasa was Phoenician trading post active in the 6th-5th centuries BCE, and thrived due to its location on the Mediterranean. It became a Roman municipality under Claudius in 46 CE, and flourished until the Vandal invasion of 430. Tipasa was revived under the Byzantines. The ancient site of Tipasa is adjacent to the modern village. The ruins have been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. |
