Note: The city of Ravensburg is situated on the Schussen River, north of Lake Constance in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwestern Germany. It was founded and chartered in the 11th century. It went to the Hohenstaufen family in 1180, then in 1276 became a free city of the Holy Roman Empire, which it remained until 1802. A flourishing medieval trading center, it joined the Swabian League in the 14th century. Much of its medieval architecture belongs, including the wall tower from the old fourteenth-century fortifications, the parish church, the town hall, and St. Jodok's Church. Textiles and machinery are among its main products today. The 2004 estimated population was 48,400. |
