Note: Carlow, located in Leister province, is Ireland's second smallest county, some 346 square miles in area. It is bordered by County Kildare to the north, Counties Wicklow and Wexford to the east, and Counties Kilkenny and Laoighis to the west. It has good farmland and intensely cultivated, with barley, wheat, and sugar beets being the main crops. Its historic relics include megalithic tombs, Norman castles, and monastic sites. Its 2003 estimated population was about 16,700. |
