Note: Kingdom centered in southern Nigeria, flourishing from the 13th-19th centuries with its center at Edo, now Benin City. The kingdom had an active part in the slave trade, as well as with ivory, palm oil, and pepper. In 1897, the kingdom was incorporated into British-controlled Nigeria.
