Note: Semnān is bordered by the provinces of Khorāsān (east), Eṣfahān (south), and Markazī (south-west). The northern region of the province is covered by an extension of the Elburz Mountains and the southern region is made up of the salt desert, Dāsht-e Kavīr. The population is mainly involved in the agricultural industries that produce corn, cotton, tobacco, sugar beets and fruit. Towns produce bricks, carpets, milled flour, alcoholic drinks and leather goods. Historically, this region was under the influence of the Median Empire and during Seleucid Empire's rule (312-64 BCE) the central region of the province came under the domain of Parthava. |
