Note: Statues in the shape of a lion or a lion-dog, usually of terra cotta, stone, or wood, particularly such statues placed in pairs as guardians at the entrances of tombs, palaces, and government offices in China and other Buddhist sites in Asia and elsewhere. They represent the "Dog of Fo," a mythical beast that was half lion and half dog. The figures first appeared in Han China in the late third century BCE, probably developing from Indian depictions of the lion as the protector of dharma.

Additional Notes:
Chinese (traditional) ..... 獅子或獅子狗形的雕塑,通常以赤土、石頭或木材製成,特指成對擺放於中國之墓地、宮殿和政府機關辦公室,以及亞洲與別處之佛教場所入口處,以為守護者的雕像。石獅代表的「福犬」,是一種半獅半犬的神獸,該形體首見於西元前3世紀後期的中國漢代,可能發展自印度所描繪的藏傳護法神獅子。 
Dutch ..... Beelden in de vorm van een leeuw of een leeuw-hond, gewoonlijk van terracotta, steen of hout, met name dergelijke beelden die in paren zijn opgesteld als bewakers bij de ingang van tombes, paleizen en overheidsgebouwen in China en andere boeddhistische locaties in Azië en elders. Ze representeren ���Fo-honden', een mythisch dier dat half leeuw, half hond was. Dit soort beelden verschenen voor het eerst aan het eind van de derde eeuw v.Chr. in Han-China. Waarschijnlijk waren ze gebaseerd op Indiase afbeeldingen van de leeuw als de beschermer van dharma. 
German ..... Statue in Form eines Löwen oder Löwen-Hundes, gewöhnlich aus Terrakotta, Stein oder Holz; solche Statuen befinden sich besonders in Paaren als Beschützer an den Eingängen von Gräbern, Palästen und Regierunggebäuden in China und anderen buddhistischen Stätten in Asien und anderswo. Sie verkörpern den "Hund von Fo", ein mythisches Tier, halb Löwe und halb Hund. Die Figuren tauchten zuerst im China der Han-Periode im späten dritten Jahrhundert vor unserer Zeit auf, wahrscheinlich entwickelten sie sich aus indischen Darstellungen des Löwen als dem Beschützer des Dharma.
