Note: Technique of cold transfer of an overglaze design to pottery, developed in England in the late 18th century. The process involved creating a design on a printing plate; then a bat, a thin sheet of gelatinous substance, was used instead of paper to pick up the oiled design from the plate and transfer it to the ceramic surface. Color in powder form was dusted onto the porcelain; only the oiled parts having the design retained the pigment. First designs were primarily in black, thus it is also called "black printing."

| Dutch ..... Techniek van koude overdracht van een opgeglazuurd ontwerp op aardewerk, ontwikkeld in Engeland aan het iende van de 18e eeuw. Het proces hield in dat er een ontwerp op een drukplaat gemaakt werd. Daarna werd een dunne plaat van geleiachtige substantie gebruikt in plaats van papier om het geoliede ontwerp van de plaat te halen en over te brengen naar het keramische oppervlak. Het porselein werd bestoven met kleur in poedervorm, alleen de geoliede delen met het ontwerp behield het pigment. De eerste ontwerpen waren voornamelijk in zwart, dus het wordt ook wel "zwart afdrukken" genoemd. |
| Spanish ..... Técnica de aplicación de vidriado a la cerámica en la cual se aplica aceite a una placa de impresión, que luego se transfiere a la cerámica mediante una placa de gelatina. A continuación la cerámica es espolvoreada con material de color, que se adhiere a las superficies con aceite. |
