Note: Mandolins developed in Italy in the mid-18th century, with a pear-shaped body made of narrow ribs and very deeply vaulted at the lower end, with fretted neck, open circular or oblong sound hole, four pairs of steel strings, a flat rectangular peg disc set at an obtuse angle, rear pegs, and a low bridge glued to the belly.

Dutch ..... Mandolines met een peervormige klankkast van smalle houten repen, sterk gewelfd aan het ondereind, hals met frets, rond of langwerpig open klankgat, 4 stalen dubbele snaren, lage kam op het bovenblad gelijmd, platte, rechthoekige sleutelschijf onder een stompe hoek op de hals, stemsleutels aan de achterkant; Italië, midden 18de eeuw. 
Spanish ..... Mandolinas desarrolladas en Italia a mediados del siglo XVIII, con un cuerpo en forma de pera hecho de costillas angostas y abombado muy profundamente en el extremo inferior, un mástil con trastes, una abertura de sonido circular u oblonga, cuatro pares de cuerdas de metal, un clavijero de disco plano y rectangular ubicado en un ángulo obtuso, clavijas traseras, y un puente bajo pegado al vientre.
