Note: The apparatus used or the manner of joining two or more parts of an object or structure. In bookbinding, the term describes the flexing exterior junctions of the spine and covers of a book. Distinguished from "hinges (fasteners)", which use strips of fabric or paper placed between the two halves of an endpaper where the body of the book is fixed to its cover.

| Dutch ..... Wordt gebruikt voor het middel waarmee of de manier waarop twee of meer delen van een voorwerp of een constructie aan elkaar worden gevoegd. Ook gebruikt voor de buigzame verbindingen in de band van een boek waarmee de rug en de kaften aan elkaar worden genaaid. Te onderscheiden van 'scharnieren (bevestigingsmiddelen)', waarmee wordt verwezen naar de stroken van papier of van ander materiaal tussen de twee helften van een schutblad, op de plek waar het lichaam van het boek aan de kaft is vastgemaakt. |
| German ..... Die Vorrichtung oder die Art der Verbindung von zwei oder mehreren Teilen eines Objektes oder einer Struktur. In der Buchbinderei beschreibt der Begriff die biegbare Außenverbindung zwischen Buchrücken und -deckel. Zu unterscheiden vom "Innengelenk (Verbindungselement)", das Streifen aus Stoff oder Papier zwischen den beiden Hälften eines Vorsatzblattes verwendet, wodurch der Körper des Buches am Deckel befestigt wird. |
| Spanish ..... Úsese para los aparatos usados o la forma de unir dos o más partes de un objecto o estructura. En encuadernación, use para las uniones flexibles exteriores del lomo y cubiertas del libro. Diferenciarlo de "bisagra (sujetador)", los cuales usan tiras de género o papel colocados entre dos mitades de una guarda donde el cuerpo del libro es fijado a sus cubiertas.
