Note: Refers to openwork embroidery that uses eyelets, which are small holes bound by satin stitches, as a main design element. It is typically worked in cotton; it usually forms edgings for apparel or household linens. The holes, or eyelets, are grouped in patterns that are further delineated by simple embroidery stitches on the surrounding material. The work is generally done with white thread on white fabric. The technique originated in 16th-century Europe; it was not confined to England as its name would imply. In the 19th century it was commonly used on nightwear and underclothing. Modern broderie anglaise is generally done by machine.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 用指有孔眼的鏤花繡，所謂孔眼是指以緞面縫縫製成的小孔，為主要設計元素。英國刺繡主要繡在棉布上，通常應用於服飾鑲邊或家用亞麻布製品。孔眼聚集成特定圖案，圖案周圍以簡單繡針縫製輪廓，突顯該圖案。英國刺繡一般以白線縫製於白布上，技術源自十六世紀的歐洲，雖名為「英國」刺繡，但使用此技法的地區不限於英國。十九世紀時，英國刺繡普遍用於製作睡衣及內衣。現代的英國刺繡一般以機器縫製而成。 |
| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar een geborduurd ajourwerk met als belangrijkste ontwerpelement de oogjes, kleine gaatjes die zijn verbonden door satijnen lapjes. Het wordt meestal verwerkt in katoen als de randen van kleding of linnengoed. De gaatjes - of oogjes - zijn gegroepeerd in patronen die verder zijn afgebakend door eenvoudige borduursteken op het omliggende materiaal. Het werk wordt meestal uitgevoerd met witte draad op witte stof. De techniek ontstond in het 16de-eeuwse Europa en was niet beperkt tot Engeland, zoals de naam suggereert. In de 19de eeuw werd het veel gebruikt op nachtkleding en ondergoed. Moderne broderie anglaise wordt meestal machinaal vervaardigd. |
| Spanish ..... Se refiere a encajes enrejados que usan ojetes, los cuales son pequeños agujeros limitados por puntadas de satín, como elemento principal de diseño. Generalmente trabajado en algodón; usualmente con formas de cantos para artículos de ropa blanca. Los agujeros u ojetes están agrupados en motivos que además están delineados por simples puntadas de encajes en todo el material. El trabajo es generalmente hecho con hilo o género blanco. La técnica se originó en el siglo XVI en Europa, en Inglaterra y otros lugares. En el siglo XIX fue comúnmente usado en ropa de noche y ropa interior. El bordado inglés moderno está generalmente hecho a máquina. |
