Note: A type of electron tube that is housed within an evacuated glass bulb, used in electronic circuitry to control electron flow in the applications of current amplification, rectification, etc. Used extensively in common electronic devices until the advent of transistors. They remain in use in certain applications such as audio amplification where they retain a cult status among audiophiles due to audible properties of even-order harmonic distortion, particularly when overdriven.

Dutch ..... Een soort elektronenbuis in een vacuüm glazen bol die men in elektrische circuits gebruikt om de elektrische stroom te controleren bij bijvoorbeeld stroomversterking of gelijkrichting. Tot de komst van de transistor op grote schaal toegepast in gangbare elektrische apparaten. In bijvoorbeeld audioversterkers gebruikt men ze nog steeds, en onder audiofielen hebben ze een cultstatus. 
German ..... Form der Elektronenröhre, die in einem evakuierten Glaskolben gelagert ist und in elektronischen Schaltungen verwendet wird, um den Elektronenfluss bei der Stromverstärkung oder beim Gleichrichten zu kontrollieren. Wurde bis zum Aufkommen des Transistors massenhaft in vielen elektronischen Geräten genutzt. Sie werden weiterhin für bestimmte Einsatzzwecke verwendet, wie etwa zur Audioverstärkung, wo sie unter Audiophilen Kultstatus genießen.
