Note: The pin pia (also spelled phin pia) is a fretless bar zither and traditional chordophone of the Lanna kingdom of northern Thailand. The instrument consists of a wooden shaft fitted with two to five strings and a coconut-shell or gourd resonator. Historically played using strings of wound plant fiber, gut, or silk hemp, the instrument has undergone a degree of revitalization in recent decades, during which modern guitar and dulcimer strings have been adopted.
