Note: Lands having grasses as the dominant vegetation, with trees and large shrubs absent. Temperatures vary more from summer to winter, and the amount of rainfall is less in temperate grasslands than in savannas. Examples are in South Africa, Hungary, Argentina and Uruguay, Russia, and the plains and prairies of central North America.

| Dutch ..... Gebieden waar grassen de dominante vegetatievorm zijn en waar geen bomen of grote struiken voorkomen. In vergelijking met savannes zijn in gematigde graslanden de temperatuurverschillen tussen zomer en winter groter en is er minder regenval. Voorbeelden zijn te vinden in Zuid-Afrika, Hongarije, Argentinië en Uruguay, Rusland en de vlaktes en prairies van centraal Noord-Amerika. |
