Note: Painted marks on ancient Greek vases, usually found on the foot of the vase. Less common than graffiti, dipinti were typically painted in red ocher and the vase after firing. The relatively fewer dipinti done in black gloss were painted before firing. Like graffiti, dipinti usually consist of a single letter or linked letters, numerical notations, and, less frequently, words, phrases, and sentences. Most are probably forms of trademarks; they are mostly found on vases intended for export.

| Dutch ..... Geschilderde tekens op Oudgriekse vazen, meestal op de voet van de vaas. De dipinti, die minder vaak zijn aangetroffen dan graffiti, werden meestal in rood oker op de vaas geschilderd na het bakken in de oven. De verhoudingsgewijs minder algemene dipinti in zwarte hoogglans zijn vóór het bakken aangebracht. Net als graffiti bestaan dipinti meestal uit één letter of uit lettercombinaties, numerieke notaties en, minder vaak, woorden, zinsdelen of zinnen. Meestal betreft het vermoedelijk een soort handelsmerk; ze worden vooral aangetroffen op vazen die voor de export bedoeld waren. |
