Note: Refers to notes, scribbles, sketches or doodles made by the artist outside the design on a plate to be printed. The practice started as a way of testing the strength of the acid on a plate about to be etched before risking the biting of the image. Remarques were usually burnished away before printing, though occasionally some marginal marks were deliberately left in some printed editions to exploit the collector's desire for rarities. | Chinese (traditional) ..... 指藝術家在即將付梓的圖版外緣上所做的記錄、塗寫、草圖、或塗鴉。此舉原意是要在即將進行蝕刻的圖版上測試酸劑之強度，以避免傷及圖像。版緣標記通常會在印刷前磨除，但藝術家偶爾會刻意在某些印刷版本留下若干邊緣記號，以提高收藏家蒐集罕見珍品的欲望。另見「輪廓略圖樣張」一詞。 |
| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar notities, krabbeltjes, schetsjes of tekeningetjes van de kunstenaar buiten het ontwerp zelf, op een af te drukken etsplaat. De gewoonte ontstond als manier om de sterkte van het zuur op een etsplaat te testen voordat de afbeelding werd ingeëtst. Graveursmerken werden gewoonlijk weggebrand voordat de ets werd gemaakt, maar soms werden enkele merken in de marge opzettelijk behouden in de afgedrukte versie, zodat verzamelaars zeldzame etsen konden verzamelen. | German ..... Bezeichnet eine von einem Künstler auf eine Druckplatte gemachte Notiz, Kritzelei, Skizze oder Zeichnung außerhalb des Motivs. Diese Praktik entstand als Test des Säuregrades vor dem eigentlichen Ätzen der Druckplatte, um das Bild nicht zu gefährden. Remarquen wurden normalerweise vor dem Druck abgeschliffen, manchmal allerdings absichtlich in wenigen Drucken belassen, um die Nachfrage der Sammler nach Raritäten zu nutzen.
