Note: Cord drills of a style unique to the Maori; used to create holes in hard materials such as basalt, pounamu (New Zealand greenstone) or bone. The holes were made by applying downward pressure and a twirling motion by pulling cords, creating friction at the drill point to bore through solid material. |

Dutch ..... Touwboren in een stijl die uniek is voor de Maori; gebruikt om gaten te maken in harde materialen zoals basalt, pounamu (Nieuw-Zeelandse groensteen) of bot. De gaten werden gemaakt door neerwaartse druk toe te passen en een draaiende beweging te veroorzaken door aan touwen trekken. Zo ontstond wrijving bij het boorpunt en kon men door massief materiaal boren. |
