Note: Paint pigments prepared by grinding minerals containing iron oxides and other materials such as clay, chalk, and silica. Each deposit has a unique composition, working characteristics, and color, in varying ranges of yellow, orange, red, brown, and black. Earth colors have been used since prehistoric times and are permanent in all techniques. Synthetic iron oxides, called Mars colors, have been produced since the late 18th century.

| Dutch ..... Verfpigmenten die worden gemaakt door het vermalen van mineralen die ijzeroxide en andere materialen bevatten, zoals klei, krijt en silica. Elke afzetting heeft een unieke samenstelling, werking en kleur, met diverse reeksen geel, oranje, rood, bruin en zwart. Aardkleuren worden als sinds de prehistorie gebruikt en komen terug in alle technieken. Synthetische ijzeroxiden, de zogenaamde Mars-kleuren, worden sinds het einde van de 18e eeuw geproduceerd. |
