Note: Early diagramatic renderings of the known world. The first known form of these was the late 7th or early 8th century work of Isidore of Seville. The design consists of a ring of encircling sea-ocean divided in its interior into three continents for Asia, Europe, and Africa, understood as a capital letter T within an O. It is also known as an Isidoran map or a "T and O map" or "O–T map" or "T–O map."
