Note: Ceramics made of the distinctive type of clay found in the Arita area of Japan; first manufactured in the early 17th century. Characterized by early unglazed blue and white porcelain to colorful enamel ware perfected in the 1640s. Arita ware was produced in large quantities in the 17th century and mass-produced by the Meiji period (1868-1912).

| Dutch ..... Keramiek die gemaakt is van de kenmerkende klei uit Arita, in Japan; werd voor het eerst geproduceerd in de vroege 17e eeuw. Het bestond uit ongeglazuurd blauw en wit porselein, totdat in de jaren 1640 een kleurrijk email werd geperfectioneerd. Het werd vanaf de 17e eeuw al in grote hoeveelheden geproduceerd, maar echte massaproductie kwam pas op gang tijdens de Meiji-periode (1868-1912). |
