Note: Soluble red or purple-brown powder extracted from the dried female scale insect Dactylopius coccus. The percentage of acidity changes the color of Carminic acid from a bright red to yellow or deep violet. It is the primary ingredient in cochineal dyestuff and is used in paint pigments, color photography, and textile dyeing. |

Dutch ..... Oplosbaar rood of paarsbruin poeder dat wordt gewonnen uit een gedroogd vrouwtje van de cochenilleluis. Afhankelijk van de zuurgraad kan karmijnzuur lichtrood, geel of dieppaars zijn. Het is het belangrijkste ingrediƫnt van cochenilleverfstof en wordt gebruikt in verfpigmenten, bij kleurenfotografie en bij het verven van textiel. |
