Note: Roughly triangular cloth flaps on each shoulder of an officer's service uniform that extend inward from the sleeve seam, fasten by button near the collar, and bear an insignia of rank. Worn by army, airforce, and marine officers in the United States. For generally rectangular pieces of cloth worn at the shoulder on military uniforms and bearing an insignia of rank, use "shoulder straps."

Dutch ..... Te gebruiken voor ruwweg driehoekige lappen textiel op elk van beide schouders van het dienstuniform van een officier, die naar binnen doorlopen bij de zoom van de mouw, met een knoop zijn bevestigd bij de kraag en een rangonderscheidingsteken dragen. Gedragen door land- lucht- en zeemachtofficieren in de Verenigde Staten. Gebruik ‘schouderkleppen’ voor over het algemeen rechthoekige stroken textiel, bij de schouder gedragen op militaire uniformen en voorzien van een rangonderscheidingsteken. 
Spanish ..... Úsese para designar las alas de tela aproximadamente triangulares sobre cada hombro de un uniforme de servicio de los oficiales, las cuales se extienden hacia dentro desde la costura de las mangas, abrochan mediante un botón cerca del cuello, y portan una insignia de rango. Utilizadas por el ejército, la aviación y los oficiales marina en los Estados Unidos. Para piezas de tela rectangulares que se llevan en el hombro de los uniformes militares y portan una insignia de rango, use "shoulder straps”
