Note: Basins of metal or porcelain, produced as a pair and fitting one inside the other: one bowl with a small spout to pour water over the hands and the other to serve as a catch basin. They were used for washing the hands before meals or during liturgical ceremonies. They were being produced in Limoges by the 13th-century, although the form is earlier. The name is derived from "gemellus," the Latin word for "twin"), referring to the fact that they were produced in pairs.

| Dutch ..... Kommen van metaal of porselein die gemaakt zijn als paar en in elkaar passen. Eén kom heeft een kleine tuit om water over de handen te gieten en de andere kom dient als waterreservoir. Ze werden gebruikt om de handen te wassen voor het eten of tijdens liturgische ceremonies. Men begon ze in de dertiende eeuw te vervaardigen in Limoges, hoewel het ontwerp ouder is. De naam is afgeleid van ���gemellus', Latijns voor ���tweeling'. |
| French ..... Paire de bassins circulaires, de même forme et décor, s'emboîtant l'un dans l'autre et servant aux ablutions liturgiques. L'un permet de verser l'eau dans l'autre. Le bassin qui sert de réceptacle reçoit l'eau venant de l'autre bassin à travers un orifice ou un petit goulot percé sur le bord du bassin verseur. |

| Spanish ..... Charolas circulares, parecidas en su forma y decoración, empotrables la una en la otra, utilizadas para las abluciones litúrgicas. La cuenca recipiente recoge el agua que con la otra se vierte por un orificio o por un pitón cercano al borde. |
