Note: 16th- and 17th-century stoneware, particularly jugs, featuring mottled brown glaze over a greyish body that was imported into England from the Rhenish potteries, particularly those of Cologne. Tiger ware jugs were often mounted with silver in the form of neckband and lid, foot, and handle mounts. The term is also applied to English imitations such as those made by John Dwight of Fulham who founded a factory for this purpose at the end of the 17th century.

| Dutch ..... Steengoed uit de 16de en 17de eeuw, met name kruiken, met een opvallend vlekkerig bruin glazuur op een grijsachtige romp, dat in Engeland werd ingevoerd uit de aardewerkfabrieken langs de Rijn, met name die van Keulen. Tigerkruiken waren vaak bekleed met zilver in de vorm van een band rond de hals, en met zilver op het deksel, de voet en het handvat. De term wordt ook gebruikt voor Engelse imitaties, zoals het aardewerk dat is vervaardigd door John Dwight uit Fulham, die eind 17de eeuw een fabriek speciaal voor dit doel stichtte. |
