Note: Optical toys that create moving images, consisting of a slotted disk featuring a series of images that appear to move when the disk is spun and viewed through the slots before a mirror. Its invention is attributed to Joseph Plateau in 1833. Distinct from "stroboscopes," similar devices that employ two disks in place of the mirror.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Optisch speelgoed dat bewegende beelden creëert. Het bestaat uit een schijf met uitsparingen, waarop een reeks beelden te zien is die lijken te bewegen bij het draaien van de schijf voor een spiegel en het bekijken ervan via de uitsparingen. De uitvinding dateert uit 1833 en Joseph Plateau wordt beschouwd als de uitvinder. Een stroboscoop is een soortgelijk apparaat, waarbij in plaats van de spiegel echter gebruik wordt gemaakt van twee schijven. 
German ..... Optisches Spielzeug, das den Eindruck bewegter Bilder generiert: eine mit unterschiedlichen, aber ähnlichen Bildmotiven bedruckte und mit einer Anzahl von Schlitzen versehene Scheibe wird an einem Handgriff gehalten, in Rotation gebracht und die schwarze Rückseite betrachtet: auf einem Spiegel entsteht durch die Schlitze der Eindruck einer Bewegungsfolge.

Sua invenção é atribuída a Joseph Plateau em 1833. Diferente dos "estroboscópios", dispositivos semelhantes que empregam dois discos no lugar do espelho 
Spanish ..... Juguetes ópticos que crean imágenes cambiantes que consisten normalmente en discos con una serie de dibujos secuenciales que se ven a través de un espejo a través de aberturas en los discos, uno para cada imagen, mientras los discos son hechos girar.
